Josie M (Montoya) Zamora

Josie M. Zamora, age 79 was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away peacefully on the afternoon of September 8th in Amarillo TX. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Monday September 11, 2023 at Cox- Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive with Dr. Buddy Young officiating.

Josie was born on January 31, 1944 in a small town of Lake Valley, NM and was raised in Hillsboro, NM with her six siblings. Josie married Gilbert T. Zamora on December 4th 1960 and raised their 4 children, Ida, Sonny, Robert, and Patti. They were married for 62 years. Josie cherished her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She also loved her fur babies, Daisy Mae, Boots, and Linda.

Josie was of catholic faith and served as a member of the ladies auxiliary which she really enjoyed. Josie was a kind, loving, giving, strong, feisty woman that touched the lives of many. She was a proud American. She served as an alternating judge for a few years, then served as a probate judge in Truth or Consequences, NM until retirement. She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She was a volunteer EMT for many years, and always loved helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Onesima Arrelin Montoya and Everisto Montoya; brothers, Guadalupe Montoya and Eduardo Montoya; a son, Gilbert Ray “Sonny” Zamora and a grandson, Skylar Zamora.

Survivors include husband, Gilbert Zamora of Amarillo; daughters, Ida Laubhan of Amarillo, Patti (Chris) Cooke of Amarillo; a son, Robert (Terri) Zamora of Chesterfield MI; 3 brothers, Braulio Montoya of Williamsburg NM, Joe (Callie) Montoya of Troy TX and Robert (Narene) Montoya of Belin NM; a sister Nellie Montoya of Deming, TX; 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Justin) Booth of Amarillo, Chris (Ann) Laubhan of Tyler TX, Nick (Heather) Laubhan of Wylie TX, Jase Zamora of Chesterfield MI, Joey Zamora of Chesterfield MI, Devanie Bernall of T or C NM, RaeAnn Zamora (Alex) Caballo NM, Calvin Thompson (Ashton) of Amarillo, Coltin Thompson (Megan) of Amarillo, Daniel Barela (Sam) of Los Lunas NM, Christopher (Kay) Cooke of Los Lunas, NM, Chase (Keller) Cooke of Amarillo; 23 great –grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild
