Joyce was born December 6th,1938, to Paul and Deloris Baker, in Syracuse Ks. She was raised on a family farm in Menno community south of Kendall, Ks. She graduated Salutatorian and was home coming queen in 1956 at Syracuse High School. She married Billy Gene Maxey on August 5, 1956, in Syracuse Ks and they were blessed with 58 years . They lived together in Pueblo, Co, where their three children were born. They called Gunnison, Colorado home for many years before returning to Syracuse. They built and operated "the Dog House" restaurant to give Kids and locals a place to enjoy a cup of coffee , a slice of pie and even catered meals to harvesters and visiting school teams after the games.
After relocating to Amarillo, Texas, she worked at BSA business office for several years and transferred to First Care as a supervisor in the recovery specialist department. She loved to travel in their RV, enjoyed quilting and sewing. Her grandchildren will remember her homemade Chicken and noodles and peanut butter cinnamon rolls.
She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Patricia Jo and husband Dennis Rhyne of
Amarillo Texas, Son Timothy Paul Maxey and wife Marsha of Ulysses Ks, Andrew Gene Maxey and wife Angela of Vail, Co. Her Brother Lyle M. Baker and wife Janice of Hays, Ks. She has 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
