Joyce Ann Merrick Schultz

Joyce Ann Merrick Schultz, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, September 9, 2018. Memorial services will be Saturday, September 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church Chapel, 1208 S. Tyler St. with Pastor Robbie Barrett officiating. Inurnment will be at Llano Cemetery. Joyce was born October 11, 1939 in Amarillo to Roy and Lucille Merrick. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1957. She worked for Taylor Petroleum in sales for many years, retiring in 2000. She met Gerald "Gerry" Schultz in 1992, and they married in 1997. Joyce was a strong Christian woman, and had been an active member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, Hillside Christian Church, and First Baptist Church. She and Gerry enjoyed travelling after their retirement. They travelled to Hawaii, Alaska, England, and many other places. Joyce sang with the Amarillo Chapter of Sweet Adeline's for many years. She sang bass with the Sharpsichords Quartet, the only Regional Champions from Amarillo in the 1970's. She was a talented painter and also enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Randy Shull; a sister, LaNelle Poling; two brothers, Bobby Merrick and Jimmy Merrick. Survivors include her husband, Gerry Schultz of Amarillo; three daughters, Cindy Lou Smeltzer and husband Steve of Orange County, CA, Sally West and husband Dale of Dallas, and Katherine Hoyer and husband Scott of Portland, OR; a sister, Betty Leavelle of Euless, TX; four grandchildren, Mark Smeltzer, Bethany Smeltzer, Keren Broce and husband Jason, and Daniel Smeltzer and wife Jolene all of Orange County, CA; and one great-granddaughter, Cambria Joy Broce. The family suggests memorials be made to Sharing Hope Ministry, 2300 SW 7th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79106; or to First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
