Juan “John” G. Garza, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2021 at River Fellowship Church, 1739 S. Avondale St. with Pastor Darrell Anderson officiating.
John was born July 16, 1950 in Edinburg, Texas to Margaret and Gilbert Garza. He married Aurelia Aguilar on August 2, 1970 in Amarillo. He worked for Caterpillar as a diesel mechanic for 15 years. He also worked in the family business at Garza’s Income Tax for 29 years. John and Aurelia were very generous people, and were always willing to help out anyone in need. They enjoyed travelling together and even visited 12 states in one month, which included seeing Mt. Rushmore and Little Big Horn. They were longtime active members of Blessed Sacrament Church. John remodeled houses and restored antique cars. He enjoyed showing his 1928 Model A Ford (his baby) at car shows. He became a member of River Fellowship Church and became active in the men’s group there. John made Native American jewelry, and he loved going to the flea market and to casinos. He had health issues but he never gave up. He adored his family and loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Aurelia Garza; two sisters, Estella “Ana” Rodriguez and Margie Velasco; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Olivas.
Survivors include two daughters, Candy Ortega and husband Juan, and Melisa Neal and husband James all of Amarillo; a son, Manuel Garza of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
