June (Phipps) Hart

July 12, 1932 — May 15, 2024

Amarillo

June J. Hart, 91, of Amarillo, passed away on May 15, 2024. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday, May 20, 2024 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive with Pastor Robby Barrett officiating. Burial to follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. June, affectionately known as “Julie,” was born in July 1932 in Erick, OK. She was the second eldest of five children born to Katie and Herman Phipps, with two sisters and a set of twin brothers. After her mother's early death, her father married Pauline Phipps, and together they welcomed a brother, Sam Phipps and a sister, Mary-Alice Forester, into the family.

June graduated from high school in Amarillo and entered the workforce, spending the majority of her career in upscale retail. She loved outfitting and dressing clientele in Dallas and Amarillo, and was known for her impeccable taste, class, and style. Her infectious laugh, piercing blue eyes, and warm, generous heart endeared her to many. Beyond fashion, June had a talent for creating beautiful landscapes and took great pride in her yard. Although married and divorced several times, June's greatest joy came in her mid-twenties when she gave birth to her only child, a son named Rock Wakefield. June lived a full life, overcoming many tribulations with admirable strength and dignity. She was well-loved and respected by those that crossed her path. She was surrounded by wonderful friends and family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Katie Phipps; father, Herman Phipps; twin brothers, Frank and Dickie Phipps; sisters, Barbara Chance and Nadine Chance; special friend, Dale Elliot; grandson, Chad Wakefield; and beloved son, Rock Wakefield. She is survived by her sister, Mary Alice Forester; brother, Sam Phipps; grandson, Quincy Wakefield; granddaughters, Khaki Wakefield and Tennessee Scanio (and her husband, Joseph Scanio); and great-grandchildren, Cash Wakefield, Kyan Williams, Kasyn Williams, Kamdyn Williams, Vivian Scanio, Colette Scanio, and Charlotte Parmentier. A memorial service celebrating June's beautiful life will be held at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home at 10 AM on Monday, May 20, 2024, followed by a brief, informal graveside burial at Llano Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo in June’s memory.
