June Ellen Lackey, née Fields, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 15.. She was born on August 15, 1928, in Colorado City, Texas. She is survived by her six children and spouses, Trey & Diane Lackey of Arlington, Jay & Pam Lackey of Lubbock, Linda & James Chaddick of Amarillo, Kay & Gary Muramoto of Abilene, Janice & John Powell of Meeker, Oklahoma, and Laura & Patrick Richardson of Portland, OR; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Grady Lackey, Jr.; her father and mother, Jake Whitten Fields and Jewell Ellen (Bolling) Fields; a brother, John Fields; a sister, Gracye Stuckey; and two grandchildren, Sarah Muramoto and Rebecca Lackey. June and Grady Lackey were married on August 23, 1948, in Hobbs, New Mexico. They moved to Spur, Texas, in 1948. In 1962 the family moved to Lubbock, where June taught in the public school system. After retirement, in 1999 June and Grady moved to a ranch near Dublin. June Lackey was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, Spur; Oakwood Baptist Church, Lubbock; First Baptist Church, Stephenville; and First Baptist Church, Amarillo, where she had lived since 2021. For many years she served as director of the college and career department at Oakwood Baptist Church, helping to guide many generations of students. She was committed to Christian missions, participating in trips to Mexico, Jamaica, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Poland, Russia and Australia, and long-term stays in South Korea and China. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Amarillo, with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, First Baptist Church, Amarillo (firstamarillo.org).
