June was born April 1, 1940 to J. P. & Loraine Wrather. She lived in Amarillo all her life. She graduated
from AHS in 1958 and married the love of her life,Jerry McGinnis, in 1959. He passed away in 2014. They
had 2 sons and after the death of their oldest son in 1998, they raised their granddaughter, Shea, as their
daughter. Her greatest enjoyment came from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and
she enjoyed every minute she spent with them. Despite suffering from chronic COPD and lung cancer, her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and
the love and prayers of family and friends, carried her through. She fought the disease fiercely -
determined to make the most of every precious day. June enjoyed playing bridge and also teaching bridge. She earned the rank of Gold Life Master. June
served on the local board of directors of the Amarillo Duplicate Bridge Club of Amarillo and also on the
district board. She was appointed to the ACBL Goodwill Committee. June worked as an Architectural secretary for 34 years for Hannon, Daniel & Dickerson. The last 2 years
of her career she worked for Western Builders where she made many new friends. June was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist church. One of her favorite memories was playing
in the church bell choir. Those that knew her knew of her love and faith in Christ and that she was looking
forward to being reunited with her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her son, Mike, and her sister and best friend, Janene
Hawkins. '
Survivors include her son Mark and wife Chris of Tomah, Wisconsin; daughter Shea Short and husband
Nathan of Amarillo; grandchildren Wrather McGinnis of San Angelo, Matthew McGinnis, Makayla
McGinnis and Makinna McGinnis, all of Wisconsin; great grandchildren Kylan Blackwell, Kasyn Blackwell
and Kapreese Blackwell, all of Amarillo; brother Frank Wrather of Amarillo; brother-in-law Dale McGinnis
and wife Denise of Amarillo; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family suggests memorials be to Texas Oncology Cancer Center or a favorite charity.
