Heaven gained another angel today! Justin S. Shelton, 38, of Amarillo hit a home run! Celebration of Life Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Rick Klein Baseball Complex, 3901 S. Grand, Amarillo, TX. The family requests that funeral attenders dress casually and bring their lawn chairs!
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Justin Shelton Benefit Fund at any Amarillo National Bank location.
Justin was born on March 1, 1979 in Amarillo. He went on to graduate from Tascosa High School in 1997. Five years later he married his wife of 15 years... Romnee Darnell Shelton on September 7, 2002. He followed in his Papa Sam's footsteps working for an electrical company. He served as Sr. Technical Instructor for Xcel Energy for the last 12 years.
All who knew Justin, knew his family came first. He was a devoted father and husband and greatly admired by his nieces and nephews. He was also a dedicated coach. His love of baseball and softball was evident by the countless hours he volunteered of his time, coaching dozens of children on and off the field. Coaching not just about baseball... but about life. When he wasn't impacting lives on the field, he was selflessly giving his time to others...humble in all he did... another one of Justin's great qualities. He had an outgoing personality, upbeat and optimistic, never met a stranger and was an encourager to all he met. Another of Justin's passions was the Khiva Shrine. He became a member in adulthood because he benefited from the Shriners in early childhood. Being the giver Justin was... he gave back... and always at 110%! Even through his passing, he gave the gift of life to over 80 people through LifeGift.
Some of the many things Justin enjoyed were fishing with his late Papa Sam and little brother Kyle, all facets of softball and baseball, golf and the ocean. And... projects... he always had a project in process...thinking of the next one...such a hard worker.
He is survived by his wife, Romnee Shelton; children, Preslee and Sam Shelton; mother, Linda Shelton; brother, Kyle Shelton; nieces and nephews, Laynie Shelton, Jaymarie Lizama, Delaney Darnell and Max Darnell, Braddek Darnell and Kashlyn Viduarre, all of Amarillo; aunts and uncles, Dessie and Steve Davis of Dallas and Becky McLaughlin and fiance Max Lane of Amarillo; parents-in-law, Johnny and Becky Darnell; brother-in-law, Layne Darnell and wife Nikki; sister-in-law, Johnna Darnell; sister-in-love, Rachael Evans, all of Amarillo; his best friend, Aric Brewton of 25 years who was just like family and many cousins and extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Granny Betty and Papa Sam and his Aunt, Vicky Messer.
Justin, we say goodnight, sweet dreams, don't let the bed bugs bite. Sleep with angels, dream about me.
