Amarillo

Kathleen “Kat” Black, 79, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Private family services were held in Amarillo.

Kat was born on January 4, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to John and Joan Clement. She was raised in a large family of 11 children, including five sisters and five brothers. She was first called “Sister”, because that’s her sister Carol first called her. The family moved around a lot due to their father’s military service. The family landed in Amarillo when Kat was 13 years old. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School and went on to earn her LVN degree at Amarillo College. Kat worked as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital where they nicknamed her “Black Kat”, as well as BSA Hospital and Bivins Nursing Home, retiring at the age of 70.

In her spare time, Kat enjoyed working in her yard, growing beautiful flower gardens, as well as trees and shrubs. She was always so proud of her gardens. She loved birds, especially hummingbirds. Kat was a very creative person and enjoyed doing crafts of different kinds, including glass etching, wood working and decoupage. She was an avid reader and liked reading mysteries.

Kat was preceded in death by her parents; and by three brothers, Billy Clement, Johnny Clement and Richard Clement.

Survivors include her daughter, Amber Leigh Reyes and husband Oscar of Amarillo; two sons, Cody Allen Black of Stephenville, and John Jared Black of Amarillo; five sisters, Carol Dean of Plano, TX, Janet Davis and husband Jack of Azle, TX, Pam Gibson, Monica Scott and Geri Toniolli and husband Jimmy, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Robert Clement and Don Clement both of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Macall Reyes, Brock Reyes, Kasen Black, Halle Black and Hannah Dunn; and one precious great-granddaughter, Aria Reyes. She is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Texas Oncology, 1826 Point W Pkwy, Amarillo, TX 79124.
