Kathy Stanley

December 4, 1935 — March 29, 2016

Barbara Kathryn Stanley, 80, breathed her last breath on earth and her first breath in heaven at about 4:40 p.m. on March 29, 2016 with her family gathered at BSA Hospital. Kathy, as she was affectionately called, was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 4, 1935 and spent much of her childhood in Stamford, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1954 and received her BS degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1958. She was a teacher of biology at Abilene High School. She always had a love for plants and animals. Kathy met Ed Stanley at University Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. They were married there December 21, 1956. Ed and Kathy moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1969. Kathy was a wife of noble character, devoted unconditionally to her family. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Chris and she adamantly supported those in need. Her sewing and quilting talents were unparalleled and she also enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with family. Kathy was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in January of 2015. The family is very grateful to the doctors and the medical staff at BSA that cared for her throughout her illness and during her last days. Her wish to go to her heavenly home came true on the afternoon of March 29th. We find comfort in knowing she now has eternal life free from pain. Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, David Bean; her parents A.R. and Blanche Bean and Clyde Boswell. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ed Stanley; her children: Reese Stanley and wife Marilyn "Baer" Stanley of San Antonio, Steve Stanley and daughter-in-law Gina Stiles of Amarillo, Mark Stanley and wife Amanda Stanley of Castle Rock, Colorado; sister Margaret Johnston and husband Leroy of San Antonio; grandchildren: Shea, Tyler and Kathryn; nieces and nephews Jerry Bean, Lisa Bean Walls, Ronda Cantrell, and Raymel Johnston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Citychurch Amarillo, Paramount Baptist Church Missions, BSA Hospital or your favorite charity.
