Kay Jones Donaldson, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive in Amarillo, with Gary Hall officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Monday at Zybach Cemetery in Allison, Texas. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the funeral home.
Kay was born October 9, 1937 in Allison, Texas to Lloyd and Myrtle Jones. She graduated from Allison High School in 1955, then married her husband, William “Bill” Donaldson on May 22, 1955. Together, they enjoyed 69 years of marriage and raised three children, Allen, Jackie and Jimmy. Kay dedicated her life to caring for her family. She worked alongside Bill on the family farm in Allison, Texas where they lived for the majority of their life together. Kay wasn’t afraid to do her share of the heavy lifting, including driving a combine or tractor, and delivering hot meals to the family and workers on the farm.
Kay was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Allison, where she taught Sunday school and worked in vacation Bible school. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the lake, boating and fishing. She loved to throw large family gatherings at the holidays. Kay had a servant’s heart and was very generous and charitable. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jimmy Donaldson; and three brothers, Harold Jones, Troy Jones and Bill Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Donaldson; her son, Allen Donaldson and wife Vicky of Houston; her daughter, Jackie Moore and husband, Mike of Panhandle; her sister, Sharon Hall and husband Lee of Allison; nine grandchildren, Ashley Cooper and husband Vance, Brett Donaldson, Daniel Lewis and wife Amber, Daranda Watson, Darla Hays and husband John, Monty Donaldson and wife Amanda, Katie Bryson and husband Kendrick, Nicki Junell and husband Brad, and Mallori Larson; and 14 great-grandchildren, Casen, Kinsley, Kyle, Kadence, Caden and wife Kaylee, Mykaela, Hadley, Elizabeth, Bowen, Breckin, Austin, Knox, Kopelynn, and Kannon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org.
