Amarillo

Kenneth “Ken” Errington, 85, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2025, at First Baptist Church, in the chapel, with Chaplain Byron Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Ken was born on August 4, 1939, in Wheeler to Buddy and Lorene Errington. Ken was a United States Army veteran serving from 1962 to 1965. He served in Thailand during the Vietnam War and participated in the US Army's travelling basketball team among his military duties. Ken has been an Amarillo resident since 1960, where he met Oneta Leamon from Oklahoma and raised 2 children. He drove a cement truck, and then he became a gasoline truck hauler for Texaco for 18 years, driving a million miles without a single preventable accident. This was an exceptional accomplishment for which he was awarded by Texaco. He began a second career with AISD for 20 years as a warehouse foreman and maintenance supervisor. It was widely known by all at AISD that if you needed anything for your school, Ken was the man to call. After his AISD retirement, he became a courtesy driver for an auto dealership and an accounting firm in Amarillo. He delivered documents all over town, and his courteous, friendly, and energetic spirit was always present, and he would greet everyone with a smile and any amount of conversation. His work ethic and friendliness were constant.

Ken was an enthusiastic competitor who participated avidly in Amarillo's Parks & Recreation Department adult leagues. He was a towering force on the basketball & volleyball courts, as well as on the softball field. His ability as an athlete naturally led him to coaching, where he taught youth participant’s fundamental basketball with much success. As a coach, he was a charter participant in Kid's Incorporated in its earliest days.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Errington and his cousin, Ellen.

Survivors include his daughter, Kendra Orr, and husband Scott of Edmond, Oklahoma; his son, Bret Errington, and wife Meredith of Amarillo; his sister Brenda & her husband Buddy Dickinson, the mother of his children, Oneta Errington; his cousin, Rossie; his many nieces and nephews: Stan, James, and Rick Errington, Sara Peek, Tim, and Ty Dickinson, and all their children; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Corean, Reece, Emily, Alice, Ross, and Grace Errington, and Kennedy Orr; five great-grandchildren Kora, Natalie, Lilly, Reagan, & Walker. He has a host of friends and acquaintances who will remember him fondly.
