Kenneth R. Henderson

Kenneth was born on July 14, 1928 in Hobart, OK to M.A. and Mildred Henderson. He moved to Amarillo as a child, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for four years. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, retiring as Master Gunnery Sgt. in 1975. On September 6, 1953, Kenneth married Betty Bivins in Tucumcari, NM. Upon retirement from the Marine Corp, Kenneth worked for Mutual of Omaha, Levi Strauss and eventually for Pantex, retiring in 1993. Kenneth was instrumental in the establishment of the Marine Corp League of Amarillo. His loyalty was to God, Country, Family and Life. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the nursing staff of BSA Hospice and to Henrika for her special friendship. He is survived by his wife, Betty Henderson of Amarillo; 2 sons, Rusty Henderson and wife Carol of Amarillo and Brad Henderson and wife Pam of New Braunfels; 3 daughters, Sandi Owens and Ginger Smith, both of Las Vegas and Deanie Mills and husband Kent of Hermeleigh; 8 grandchildren, Cherry Murphy, Buster Henderson, Amber Jacobs, Amy Owens, Summer Smith, Lindsay Wright, Dustin Mills and Jessica Mills and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Joi Denise Henderson-Wright. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Faith City Mission of Amarillo or to the Amarillo Salvation Army.
