Ken was born January 29, 1931 in Mercury, Texas, to G.H. and Elva Pierce. He grew up in Brown County and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1948. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas where at a Billy Graham Crusade he gave his life to the Lord. He met LaRue Flanagan and they married in her family home in Mobeetie, Texas March 24, 1951. He graduated January 1955 from North Texas State College in Denton, Texas with a Bachelors in Industrial Arts. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, 1955 - 1957, and was honorably discharged into the reserves March 1965. Ken then worked at Amarillo Pantex for near forty years as a nuclear safety engineer. During this time Ken and LaRue square danced with the High Plains and Pioneer Promenaders, he joined the International Assn. of Square Dance Callers before serving as caller for the River Road Curly Q's club for many years. Ken was active as a league bowler and fastpitch softball player for Pantex teams, Amarillo Basketball Officials Assn. and avid fisherman and golfer. He was a member of Tascosa Country Club, organizer for area Tri-State Seniors Golf Assn. and Morgan Stanley Seniors Golf Tournaments. During his 70's he regularly shot his age in golf.
During his years of employment Ken and his friends built the Pierce family home in Rolling Hills as well as the Amarillo KOA. In 1969 the family moved to Billings, Montana where he worked at the KOA national offices. After retirement Ken and LaRue travelled to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and throughout the United States. They wintered at RV Ranch in Granbury, Texas. Church homes have been First Baptist, River Road Baptist, Cliffside Baptist and Paramount Baptist, all of Amarillo. Ken put himself fully into any activity he pursued. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kenda Elvira and a sister, Lynda.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, LaRue; two children, son Darden and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and daughter Carol and husband David Van Buskirk of Fort Worth, Texas.
