Carol LaRue Pierce, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2023. She died at her home in Amarillo surrounded by her children. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth T. Pierce, also of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday June 9, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be immediately following at Llano Cemetery, 2900 S Hays.
LaRue was born to Henry L. And Edith Flanagan at their home in Mobeetie, Texas on December 16, 1928. She graduated valedictorian of the class of 1946 from Mobeetie High School. During her life she survived the Dust Bowl, Great Depression and World War II. Graduating from Texas Christian University in the college of nursing, she served as a Registered Nurse for many years. She finished her career with 13 years at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital of Amarillo. LaRue travelled with her husband Kenneth during his hitch in the Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio and Amarillo. After the Amarillo base closed, they settled in Amarillo and began to raise their family. Children include son Darden Pierce, now of Oklahoma City and daughter Carol Van Buskirk of Amarillo.
The family wishes to thank all friends, neighbors, and loved ones who have blessed them with visits, food and prayers.
