Landis Oran Clark

July 8, 1921 — March 27, 2018

Mr. Clark was born July 8, 1921 at Cisco, TX. to Alva Lee and Edna Clark. He married LaVerne Shelton on March 7, 1942 at Corsicana while he was stationed there with the Army Air Corps Primary Training School. He served in the Air Corps from July 1940 until October 1945, He remained on active reserve through the Korean War. He was a member of the Washington Ave Christian Church. He was in the first class of nursing home administrators to be tested for licensure. Mr. Clark was appointed A Trustee by the Texas Department of Human Resources for nursing homes. He was the preceptor for five administrators during his 32 years as a nursing home administrator. After his retirement as Administrator at the Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in 1990 he was the interim/preceptor/consultant for eight facilities over a period of 12 years. Landis Oran Clark started the first Alzheimer's Care Unit at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home and the Alternate Care Team (ACT) to divert discharged patients from a hospital bed to alternate care at home. He served as a volunteer Ombudsman for nursing homes. He served as a Board Member of the Texas Nursing Home Association. He received the Chairman's Texas Nursing Home Association Discretionary Award as the Nursing Home Administrator in 1989. He was past president of the Hi-Plains Kiwanis Club. Clark taught a Bible School Class for twenty years, served his Church as Chairman of the Board, was guest speaker at five churches. He was made a Master Mason in 1943. He served as Deputy Grand Master for the 77th Masonic District in 1978. Clark was the first administrator for the Coke County Hospital District. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Clark; three sons: Ron Somers- Clark and wife Carole of Dallas, Dave and wife Kimberly of Amarillo and Steve and Rebecca of Dallas; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Family suggest memorials be to Washington Ave Christian Church: 3800 S. Washington, Amarillo 79110 Please no flowers.
