Larry Russell Lester, 89, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington, with Pastor Lennie McCay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Larry was born on January 16, 1936, in Verner, West Virginia, to Buel and Lola Lester. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1957. Larry relocated to Amarillo in 1958. He married the love of his life, Darlene Stokes, on June 5, 1959; together they had 66 wonderful years together. He graduated from Amarillo College with an associate degree in mid-management. Larry worked at and retired from Southwestern Public Services with 35 years of service.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and especially golf. His faith in the Lord was unblemished during the duration of his life. He wrote and performed a song celebrating his reunion with the Lord and his family once again.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce Kennedy, two brothers, Jim and Roger Lester.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Lester of the home; two sons, Neil Lester (Kim) and Scott Lester (Marva); grandchildren, Justin Lester, Shelbi Miller (Brandon), Alec Lester; great-grandchildren Hudson, Bentli, and Holden Miller.
