Laverda Eloise Gluszek, age 82, of Amarillo, Texas passed away suddenly but peacefully on April 15, 2026.
Eloise was born on March 3, 1944 in Dumas, Texas. She grew up in Port Neches and Groves, Texas with her father, mother and her two younger brothers, Roger and David, whom she adored. She attended nursing assistant school, and she worked as a nursing assistant and later as a seamstress.
Eloise was a kind and loving woman and even with little to spare she was always willing to help anyone in need. She loved to talk and would strike up conversations with anyone, whether that was the mailman, her neighbors, church family, or people in line at the store. She loved sewing, reading, doing puzzles, going to garage sales, and doing arts and crafts. Eloise also loved reading the Bible and held an unwavering faith in God. But, her greatest joy was spending time with her large and loving family, including family that did not share blood ties but bonds formed from the heart. She adored her children and grandchildren and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Eloise also made her whole family laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions. Her reach was as far as it was wide, and she will be deeply missed by all those that she’s left behind. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Laverda Hughes; father, Theodore Gluszek; step-father, Doyle “Step” Daniels; step-father, Doyle Hughes; brother, Roger Daniels; step-sister, Linda Felder; and son, Doug Chance.
Eloise is survived by her son, Lee Chance, and his wife, Sarah, of Onalaska, Texas; daughter, Dexie Organ, of Amarillo; son, Teddy Chance, and his wife, Trish, of Amarillo; and daughter, Tammie Chance, of Amarillo; her brother, David Daniels, and his wife, Dawna, of Amarillo; step-sister, Jean Heubach, and her husband, Carl, of Nederland, Texas; step-sister, Betty Poplin, of Port Neches, Texas; as well as 16 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. Visitation for the public will be held at 1:00 pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
