Lee T. Forney

Lee T. Forney, 85, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on July 30, 2025. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Oasis Church, 8201 Canyon, Dr., Amarillo, TX, with Pastor Bradley Speer officiating. Open viewing will be from 5:00 - 6:00 PM on Monday and 8:00 - 9:00 AM on Tuesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Lee was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Ross and Ruth Forney. He graduated from Storm Lake High School and earned his degree from Buena Vista College of Iowa, where he played football. In 1975, Lee moved to Texas, where he met D'ann Nowell. They married on February 21, 1976, and together raised seven children. Lee and D'ann were devoted members of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church for over 20 years. He began his career with Mesa Petroleum before founding Greasetrap Services of Amarillo in 1988, which he owned and operated until his passing. Lee had a strong work ethic and a deep love for what he did. If he wasn't working, he was thinking about working or talking about working. Outside of work, Lee enjoyed hunting, bowling, mowing the 12 acres of his country home, and refereeing sports across the Panhandle. Most of all, he loved his dear wife D'ann, his family, especially his grandchildren - and could often be found as the loudest fan on the sidelines. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Ruth Forney. He is survived by his wife, D'ann Forney of the home; his children, Scott & wife Sherri of Carlsbad, CA, Jon of New Port Beach, CA, Annie and husband Donnie of Amarillo, TX, Kendra Brooke and husband Gentry of Amarillo, TX, Ross & wife Darla of Panhandle, TX, Chandie & husband Ryan of Amarillo, TX, and Chad and wife Brittany of Canyon, TX; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great- grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, and unwavering love for his family, friends and customers. Papa always talked about wanting all of his granddaughters to be his pallbearers. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Oasis Southwest Baptist Church.
