Leonard D. Weeks

Leonard D. Weeks, 85, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday at Cox Funeral Home- Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Dr. Graveside service will be at 2:00pm at Wheeler Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm Sunday at Cox Funeral Home. Leonard was born June 26, 1932 in Dozier, Texas to John and Mamie Weeks. He graduated from Wheeler High School. Leonard married Betty Thompson in 1979. He had his own business as a vacuum cleaner distributor. He was hugely instrumental in planning and fundraising for the Texas Panhandle War Memorial. This was his passion for several years. Leonard enjoyed being outdoors and was a talented wood craftsman. Survivors include his wife, Betty Weeks of Amarillo; one son, Larry Weeks and wife Carol of Amarillo; one daughter Debbie Weeks of Amarillo; three step-sons, Ivan Thompson and wife Cathy of Greenwood, AR, Carrey Thompson and wife Kristie of Canyon, Gary Gordon and wife Carla of Omaha, NE; two step-daughters, Tammy Kelley and husband Mike of Amarillo, Darla Berry and husband Fred of Amarillo; four sisters, Louise Greenhouse of Amarillo, Glenda Malone of Pampa, Betty Slater of Amarillo, Teresa Guinn and husband Donald of Dallas; three brothers Bob Weeks of Amarillo, Ron Weeks and wife Ellen of Amarillo, Kenny Weeks and wife Terri of Wichita Falls; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Dyrika Weeks; and one brother Johnny Weeks. The family suggests memorials be made to Texas Panhandle War Memorial.
