In his infinite wisdom, July 24, 2015, God added the voice of Leroy Bennett to His angelic choir. Leroy was born March 30, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Howard Clayton and Lucy Anna Bennett. He graduated from Amarillo High, attended Amarillo Community College, and graduated from Texas Tech with a business degree. Leroy also served in three branches of the military. In 1952 he married Martha Ann Tipton. Together they raised four children. In 1995 he married Julia Rudsell.
Leroy was a strong family man and provided for his family as an outstanding truck salesman for Sid Stout Ford and Plains Chevrolet. He was a proud member of the National Micro Midget Association. This was his hobby and passion for 35 years. During this time, Leroy was able to travel around the country racing and developing an extended family of friends. He attended South Georgia Baptist Church for many years.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lucy Bennett, his wife, Martha, his son, James Lynn Bennett, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Henry Parker, and a nephew, Clay Parker. He is survived by his wife, Julia Bennett, his son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Diane Bennett of Austin, two daughters and their spouses, Laura and Art Owen and Yvonne and Johnnie Mays, and a step-daughter, Amanda Parker, all of Amarillo. He was also survived by two nieces and their spouses, Suzanne and Jim Bloom and Lisa and Larry Thomas. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Heather, April, Kayla, and Lucy Bennett, Kimberlee Rich, Matthew Lindsley, Tifannie Gipson and Kaylee, Aimee, and Rylee Parker and 12 great grandchildren.
