Lester Wright

Lester Wright, 84, of Amarillo, died Wednesday October 11, 2017. Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Cox Funeral Home - Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Pastor Lennie McCay officiating. Lester was born October 22, 1932 in Reydon, Okla. to Elda and Opal Wright. He married Theata Butler in 1950 in Wheeler. He worked for Miller Freight, which later became ICX Freight for 35 years as a truck driver. In his spare time, Lester enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing music with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Amarillo USBC Association. He was preceded in death by a son, David Wright; his parents, and a brother, Billy Wright. Survivors include his wife, Theata Wright; two daughters, Deborah Matthews and husband Al of Florida, Melinda Wright of Amarillo; four sons, Dannie Wright of Edmond, OK, Gerald Wright, Kenneth Wright, and Rodney Wright and wife Carolyn all of Amarillo; two brothers, Donnie Ray Wright and wife Pat of Sapulpa, OK, and Ronnie Wright and wife Carlene of Elk City, OK; a sister, Jana Kay Holly of Sayre, OK; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Amarillo USBC Association at amausbc.org.
