Lewis Ray (Lew) Womble

July 13, 1936 — September 29, 2017

Lewis (Lew) Ray Womble, 81, beloved Husband and Father, was called to his eternal resting place on Friday, September 29, 2017. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017, at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Cox Funeral Home. Lew entered this world on July 13, 1936 in Hereford, TX, born to Wilda and Johnny Womble. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1958. He graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1961. Lew then attended Texas Tech University for graduate studies in mathematics. In 1963, he began his career in information systems with Pantex. He later joined Guyon Saunders with Corporate Systems in 1969 as the initial group of 5 employees. Lew worked for Corporate Systems for 30 years retiring in 1999 as Director of System Services. Lew was very generous with his time and money to civic organizations and his church. He was a talented craftsman and in his retirement, he spent time with Barb restoring antiques. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara Hall Womble; sons, Dustin R. Womble and wife Leisha of Lubbock, TX, Dudley T. Womble and wife Sandy of Midland, TX, Dane L. Womble and wife Mandy of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Denise Womble Kauffman and husband Lance of Little Rock, AR; 11 grandchildren, Brook Womble Hobgood and husband Wes, Blake Womble and wife Stephanie, Brett Womble, Brianne Womble Adkins and husband Austin, Alyssa Womble, Luke Womble, Kelsey Kauffman, Kaleb Kauffman, Karson Kauffman, Kaitlin Womble and Emma Claire Womble and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Wilda, father Johnny, step-father Richard Jowell, brothers, Robert, Douglas, and Leldon. In honor of Troy Womble, Lew's grandfather, who was the first settler of Hereford, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Deaf Smith County Museum: P.O. Box 1007, Hereford, TX 79045.
