Lila Glendine (Baker) Denney

Lila Glendine Baker Denney, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.  She was born in Lamesa, Texas to Erma Lee Watson and William Laurence Baker on September 26, 1935.  She attended high school in Lamesa and in San Angelo, Texas and graduated from Texas Technological College in 1956 with a B.S. in Home Economics.  She married William Calvin (W.C.) Denney in 1956.  They spent 61 years together before his death in 2017.

Lila was a skilled seamstress, making clothes for her young children and wedding dresses for two of her daughters.  She served the public in various capacities with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for over 20 years, primarily with children in foster care and adoptions.  She and W.C. worked together to build their home and farm outside of Amarillo before moving into Amarillo for health reasons.  She enjoying working outside and making plants grow and thrive.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters Jacqueline Baker Dickey, Eloise Baker Nicolos and Suzanne Baker Hickman and her husband.  Survivors include three daughters; Christine Kaufmann and husband Ronald of Peoria, Arizona, Susan Denney and husband Luis Hernandez of Canyon and Gail Hooper and husband Donny of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 15 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Pies officiating.  Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
