Lonnie "Shorty" Green

Lonnie “Shorty” Green, 69, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Calvary Christian Fellowship, 913 S. Main Street Shamrock, TX, with Pastor Joseph Vallejos officiating; graveside services will follow, at Arlie Cemetery. Lonnie will be available for viewing from 5:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, August 29, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Lonnie “Shorty” Green was born May 22nd, 1956, to Richard and Maggie Green in the Muskogee and Checotah, Oklahoma, area. He was raised in Collingsworth County and graduated from Quail High School in 1974. He enlisted in the US Navy in the spring of 1976, achieving the rank of Seaman’s Apprentice. Shorty spent his entire life farming and ranching and loved his profession. He often said, with a sense of great pride, the commodity that he was helping to produce was benefitting so many people around the world, and that was worth more to him than the paycheck he received from helping produce it. That’s the way that he lived his life.

He always put others before himself. He never met a stranger and would give his last penny and the shirt off of his back to help anyone. He often said, “Money is just a material thing you need to survive; family is how you measure wealth.” He was a caregiver to all and always put others before himself. He had a huge heart and was always a joy to be around. He was a huge influence on several people in his life, especially the people that had lost their father figures early in life. He considered those people to be his own children and was there whenever he was needed.

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and wife Shirley.

Shorty is survived by three brothers, Melvin, Calvin, and Dale; his sister, Clarice; his son, Lee, and wife, Kira, of Amarillo; daughter, Tausha, of Hutto; and son, Stephen, of Wellington.Shorty had several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends that he considered his own immediate family.
