Amarillo

Lou Hawkins, 95, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life Gathering from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2026, at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive in Amarillo.

Lou was born on March 29, 1930 in Childress, Texas to Henry and Emma Farrow and was the oldest of eight siblings. She married Roy Hawkins on November 10, 1946 in Portales, New Mexico. The two celebrated an amazing 53 years together before his passing in 1999. They shared two children, Roy Thomas "Tom" Hawkins, and Timothy Henry "Tim" Hawkins, a lot of love, memories, a love of traveling, and reading the Bible together while listening to hymns.

Lou made her career doing clerical work at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, Amarillo Credit Bureau and the office of Ted Lokey, and was an active member of South Georgia Church of the Nazarene. She was talented at ceramics and made an entire Nativity scene which she was very proud of. She also enjoyed shooting guns with her husband and two sons. She lived out the love that Christ showed and was selfless all her life, constantly taking care of others, helping to raise her siblings and care for them as they got older and even taking in her grandson Christian Kerr at the age of four when her son Tom had passed away. Lou had a heart for serving others and for hospitality. Her home was always loving and welcoming. She never turned away a stranger and was truly a once in a lifetime soul. Her greatest joys in life were her two sons, her husband, and her grandchildren. She will be remembered by all who loved her as the person who held the family together.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Hawkins; her two sons, Tom Hawkins and Tim Hawkins; two sisters, Geraldine Jatras and Phyllis Farrow; and two brothers, Frank Farrow and Raymond Farrow.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Christian Kerr, Ethan Hawkins, Timothy D. Hawkins, Kory Hawkins, Gabrielle Hyatt and Bethany Hawkins; a brother, Harold Farrow; and numerous great-grandchildren.
