Louis J Mathews

Louis J. Mathews, 96, of Amarillo passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Louis was born in Vincennes, IN June 18, 1922 to Elzie and Opal Mathews.He proudly served in the Army in WWII. He married Helen Mathews in Amarillo in 1955. Louis was a truck driver for many years, and then became a greeter at the Wal-Mart on 45th and Coulter for 15 years. He made many friends at Wal-Mart and loved to hand stickers out to all the kids. Above all he loved his children and grand children more than anything. Louis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Louis is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mathews; his parents; four sisters, Estella Lerche, Betty Page, Thelma Nowaski, and Patty Lyke; two sons, Louis Mathews Jr. and Eddie Mathews; and one daughter, Judy Burley. Survivors include, one son, Ron Matthews and wife Carol of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Polly Skidmore of Amarillo; one sister, Margaret Page of SeaTac,WA; four grandchildren, Andy Matthews and wife Jamie of Nashville, TN, Brandon Burley and wife LeeAnn of Musckogee, OK, Cheyenne Yost and wife Gina of Jacksonville, NC, and Helen Mathews of Jacksonville, FL; 10 great grand children; one great-great grand child; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Amarillo Veterans Affairs Health Care System, 3010 W. Amarillo Blvd. Amarillo TX, 79106.
