Louise Blackwell

Louise Blackwell, 97, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Louise was born August 26, 1927 in Conde’-sur-I’Escaut, France to Marcel and Helene Guinet. Her siblings were Regine, Jacqueline, Yvette, Pierre and Monique. Her father was an officer in the French Army. During the German occupation and the war, the family was moved southwest of Paris to the very small village of Lanneray. There they worked in the potato and wheat fields to survive. At the end of the war, Louise met an American soldier and married him in Orleans, France. Louise made the journey to America on the Zebulon B. Vance. She then traveled by train to Garrison in East Texas. They moved to Amarillo in 1958 and she soon found herself single.

Louise worked hard to raise her three children. She was a devout Christian with strong values and morals that she passed on to her children. She was the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be forever loved and missed by her family.

Louise was preceded in death by a son, Richard Blackwell; a daughter, Helen Logan; and a grandson, Chris Logan.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Roden (Don); a sister, Jacqueline Tilmans of Conde’-sur-I’Escaut, France; her granddaughter, Shelly Braswell (Jonathan); her grandson, Donnie Logan (Rudy Reyna); 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
