Lydia Menke

Lydia Menke, 73, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Evangelical Fellowship, 5000 SW 49th Ave. Amarillo, TX 79109, with Pastor Blake Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Lydia was born August 5, 1950 in Amarillo, Texas to Frederick “Fritz” and Lois Menke. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1969, and went on to nursing school at Northwest Texas Hospital Nursing School. She then moved to Chicago where she studied at Moody Bible Institute. After moving back to Amarillo, she earned her BS in Nursing from West Texas State University. Lydia worked for NWTH and BSA, both for many years over her career. She did summer missionary work as a nurse in Pakistan. She also worked in an orphanage in North Carolina for a year.

In her spare time, Lydia enjoyed church work, social clubs and gatherings, even starting groups to play games in the evenings. She was a very social person and enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing the piano and organ for worship services. She was a member of several local clubs and led a children's Good News Club for many years.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; and her infant brother, Daniel Menke.

Survivors include a sister, Georgiann Menke of Amarillo; two brothers, Mark Menke and wife Denise of Friona, and Michael Menke and wife Stephnie of Amarillo; nieces and nephews, Amber Dunn, Michaela Dodson and husband Jarrod, Marla Hart and husband Jeremy, Nathan Tucker and wife Sarah, Gayla Martin and husband Roy, Aaron Tucker and wife Morgan, and Stephen Menke.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Fellowship Church, 5000 SW 49th Ave. Amarillo, TX 79109.
