Lyle Eugene Henk

August 12, 1933 — February 4, 2016

Lyle was born on August 12, 1933 in Western Nebraska to Carl, and Delverna Henk. At the young age of 19, Lyle enlisted in the Marines. He served his country for 20 years. Once in Vietnam from January 1966 to March 1967, and also in the Korean War. He was line Chief for ordnance, the first short tactical strip in Vietnam. Tragically, Lyle lost his little brother James, who served in the Army when Lyle was 36. Lyle married Dottie Ball during his service over seas on September 9, 1956. Lyle and Dottie gave birth to four children: Collette, born in 1957, Ronda, born in 1958, and twins Jennifer and Jeff, born in 1961. In 1972 Lyle Retired from the Marines, and opened up Henk's BBQ in Amarillo Texas with his wife Dottie. Together they served BBQ for 40 years, and are associated by family with Doug's BBQ, and Crazy Larry's BBQ. Lyle Believed in hard work, and placing food on the table for his family. Above all else Lyle loved to be with his family, and to him family was everything. Lyle Lost his wife of 60 years on January 27, 2016. He is survived by 3 Daughters, Collette Torres of Amarillo, Ronda Richardson and husband John of Canyon and Jennifer McDowell and husband Larry of Amarillo; Son, Jeffery Henk of Amarillo; grandchildren, Christopher Sinclair, Abby Richardson, Kristie Neal, Alexis Torres, Megan McDowell, Michael McDowell, Dottie Jane Henk, Whittney Henk, Brandon Henk, Jeracole Daniels and Shelbi Henk (Deceased); 4 Great-Grandchildren, Kash, Kendle, Kylie, Katlynn and his beloved best friend, Dee Hare who has been a blessing to the family. Sister, Barbara Ebke and husband Rodney of Nebraska, Brothers, James Henk (Deceased) Allen Henk and wife Lilly of Nebraska. Many Nieces and Nephews as well. Lyle will be deeply missed, and his stories will forever be in his families hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Delverna Henk; his brother, James Henk; grandchild, Shelbi Henk and his wife, Dottie Henk. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Veteran's Administration.
