Lynda Faye Henry Sansing

September 2, 1939 — October 19, 2017

Lynda Faye Henry Sansing died Thursday, October 19, 2017, in Amarillo, TX. Lynda was born on September 2, 1939, to W.C. and Vera Edwards Henry in Knox City, TX. She attended Elgin schools and was active in band, choir and literary competition. She had special memories of singing with the Rhythmettes. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1957, as Salutatorian of her class and immediately began studies at the University of Texas in Austin. She earned degrees in English as well as Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. While at UT, Lynda was introduced to Mack Sansing of Higgins, Texas, and they were married in January of 1960. After Mack's graduation from UT Law School, the couple returned to the Texas panhandle for Mack to practice law with his father, Roy Sansing, in Higgins. Lynda became known in Higgins as a person with much medical knowledge while raising 3 children - Kathleen Ann, Sherrie Lynn and John Charles. The family moved to Canadian in 1973, and Lynda immediately became active in civic affairs with The Women's Service League, Sharing is Caring, and the First United Methodist Church; and she worked various times at the Canadian hospital. She could be found at any school activity that her children were involved in. After her youngest child finished high school, Lynda moved to Lubbock and worked for several years with adolescents in a residential treatment center. She later moved back to Elgin to help with her aging parents, and worked for the Department of Aging and Disability Services until her retirement in 2006. She moved to Amarillo to be near family, continuing her community involvement making baked goods each week for the Ronald McDonald House. Her kind and generous spirit continued to shine after her move to Brookdale Assisted Living in 2012. She was recognized as a Distinguished Volunteer for the Host Committee and staff and residents alike could frequently be seen visiting Lynda's room, as they were offered coffee, soft drinks, and sweets. Lynda adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their "Grammers" will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Annetta Jo Henry and the father of her children. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Arbuckle and husband Roger of Spring Branch, Sherrie Lapp and husband Steve of Amarillo; a son, John Sansing and wife Teresa of Canadian; two brothers, Bill Henry and wife Ricki of Sugarland, and Boyd Henry and wife Vicki of Bastrop; nine grandchildren, Randall Arbuckle and wife, Jennifer of Wichita Falls, Aaron Arbuckle and wife, Molly of Elgin, Benjamin Arbuckle and fiancé, Lauren Hiner, of Canyon, Jessica Harrison and husband, Chad of Ft Worth, Jennifer Lapp of Denver, Colorado, Jordan Lapp of College Station, Michael Sansing and fiancé Emily Beckman of Lubbock, Zachary Sansing and Elizabeth Sansing both of Canadian; two great-grandchildren - Charlotte and Bradley Arbuckle of Elgin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be given to the Ronald McDonald House, 1501 Streit Dr. Amarillo, TX 79106.
