Madelin Labus, 93, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2021 at Washington Ave. Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St. with Chaplain Byron Williamson and Pastor Lennie McCay officiating. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in White Deer. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Madelin was born on August 15, 1927 in Groom, Texas to Peter and Rose Kuehler. She graduated from Panhandle High School in 1945.  She married the love of her life, Clement Labus, on June 10, 1947, in Panhandle. Prior to marriage, she worked for a café in Conway. After she and Clement married, Madelin dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was proud to be a farmer’s wife, and enjoyed working alongside her husband. Madelin was not one to shy away from hard work. She was an excellent baker and a talented seamstress. She even made her daughter, Louise’s wedding gown, and hand-beaded hundreds of beads onto it. Madelin was an avid quilter and made quilts for all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling and having garage sales, a lot of them! She lived for her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Madelin was a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle, and was active in the St. Theresa Altar Society. Throughout her life, Madelin was a positive person who never complained, no matter what the situation. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Ware Living Center, where Madelin has resided since December of 2015. Madelin fell in love with the staff there and they soon became her second family. They also wish to thank BSA Hospice of the Southwest for the loving care their mother received while in their care.

Madelin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clement Labus; two sisters, Bernice Rutkowski and Genevieve Kuehler; and a brother, Pete Kuehler.

Survivors include three sons, Vernon Labus and wife Jenne of Panhandle, Stewart and wife Laquita and Keith Labus and wife Betty all of Amarillo; a daughter, Louise Plunk and husband Ken of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Sara Labus, Matt Stampfli and wife Heather, Valarie Holt and husband Jonathan, Melissa Langston and husband Tim, Mackenzie Labus, and Nick Labus; and five great-grandchildren, Kross Stampfli, Hannah Holt, Madison Holt, Claire Langston, and Harrison Langston.
