Majorie Helen Kesterson

August 18, 1921 — February 17, 2018

Marjorie Helen Rogers Kesterson, age 96, went to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born to Jessie Ellis Rogers and Clo Rogers on August 18, 1921 in Floyd County, Floydada Texas. Early on they moved to Hall County, Memphis Texas where she graduated from Memphis High School in 1938. After graduating from high school she began working for Dr. O.R. Goodall and in 1940 she began her nurses training and graduated from Parkland Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas Texas in 1943. After graduation, she returned to Memphis and began working for Dr. Goodall at Goodall Hospital. On April 18, 1948, she was married to Bill George Kesterson, son of George William and Fannie Sue Kesterson of Memphis Texas. On February 24, 1953 she gave birth to a daughter, Dana Lynn Kesterson. She continued working at Goodall Hospital until 1964 when she became the first Director of Nursing at the newly constructed Hall County Hospital in Memphis. She was the sponsor for the Future Nurses Club of Memphis High School. She retired from nursing in 1986. She was preceded in death by her parents Ellis and Clo Rogers of Memphis Texas and her loving husband Bill George Kesterson of Memphis. In 2003 she moved to Grand Rapids Michigan to be closer to her daughter and returned to reside with her daughter and son-in-law in Amarillo Texas in 2011. Survivors include one daughter Dana Troyer and wonderful husband David Troyer of Amarillo. One grandson, Michael Dixon, and his beautiful wife, Jennifer Dixon and one special great grandson Mason James Dixon and one step grandson Kyler Lanzo of Amarillo. She is also survived by four step grandchildren, Sarah Schloop and husband Ben Schloop of Grand Rapids Michigan, Krystal Troyer of Corunna Michigan, Felicia Harrel and sons of Jacksonville North Carolina and Reuben Troyer of Virginia Beach Virginia. Marjorie loved sending cards to all her friends on special occasions, watching Jeopardy on TV, and working crossword puzzles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview Cemetery Association of Memphis Texas, the Palo Duro Masonic Lodge or the Khiva Shrine.
