Manuel Medina Martinez

April 5, 1921 — August 14, 2015

Manuel was born on April 5, 1921 in Ennis, TX to Matilde and Pasquala Martinez. He moved to Amarillo as a child, where he resided most of his life. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17, where he proudly served for 10 years before his enlistment in the United States Air Force. He served in WWII in Germany as a telephone operator. Manuel retired from the Air Force on January 17, 1966. He married Erika Gisla on April 25, 1972. Manuel worked for Santa Fe Railroad for over 17 years, retiring in 1983. He lived life to its fullest, enjoying fishing and spending time with his family as often as possible. He was considered a great man who was generous and giving to anyone in need. He loved to watch Old Western movies and enjoyed watching wrestling, especially in the company of his family. He is survived by his wife, Erika Martinez; daughter, Angie Lucero and husband Carlos; 2 sons, Manuel Medina Martinez, Jr. and Felix Benavidez, all of Amarillo; 6 grandchildren, Erika Rodriguez and husband Adolfo, Matthew Lucero and Anthony, Ambryn, Britlyn and Ray Martinez; niece, Tina Nino and husband, Edward all of Amarillo as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him greatly. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Francis "Panchie" Martinez; 3 brothers, Arthur, Raul and Toby Martinez and sister, Conchita Martinez.
