Marcia Campbell Martin

July 4, 1934 — January 30, 2017

Marcia was born July 4, 1934, in Hillsboro to Aaron "Bud" and Ruby Campbell. After her father died when Marcia was a toddler, the family struggled through the Great Depression. Marcia married William R. "Bob" Martin upon her graduation from high school, as was the custom of the day. They moved to Amarillo and soon had three children. When young Marcia was in the early years of school, she struggled without many of the resources and advantages of most of her classmates. An observant teacher noticed and took Marcia under her wing, encouraging and nurturing her. Marcia was amazed at the tremendous joy brought by the simple gifts of time and attention. This experience instilled in young Marcia a lifelong love of learning and a passion to make others feel appreciated, important, and loved. She always took a special interest in the less advantaged, the discouraged, and those in jeopardy of being left behind. As she raised her own children and cared for her family, Marcia took night classes in college. She graduated from West Texas State University the same year her oldest child graduated from high school. She got her first teaching job at age 40. Even while teaching full-time, Marcia continued to take classes, earning her Masters degree in Education from WTSU. Even with her advanced education, Marcia wanted to teach in a position where she could make the most difference in the lives of young students. She taught kindergarten for 27 years before retiring from Highland Park Independent School District in Potter County. Upon retirement, she found she couldn't stop teaching. She began teaching adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. She was pleased to be considered a loving wife, caring mother, steadfast friend, inspiring educator, and a woman after God's own heart. Marcia was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and the Bridge Builders Sunday School class She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa educators sorority. Marcia was predeceased by her parents, brothers Nelson and Larry, and her husband of 57 years, Bob. She is survived by brothers Aaron of Dallas and Leroy of Waco; sisters Nancy of Wylie and Chris of Fall River, Massachusetts; son David and wife Holly of Carrollton; daughter Cindy Myers and husband Randy of Lewisville; daughter Lisa Rosales and husband Francisco of San Francisco; grandchildren Robert Myers, Sarah Myers, and Brooks Martin; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and countless friends.
