Maria Luisa Tijerina

Maria Luisa Tijerina, , 68, of Amarillo passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Hillside Christian Church with Pastor Rob Attaway and Pastor Sean Vokes officiating. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive guests for visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2017 at Cox Funeral Home. Maria was born on October 2, 1949 in Lasara to Jose and Maria Gallegos. She was raised in Hereford, where she married Julian C. Tijerina on September 27, 1969. Maria received her Bachelor's Degree from West Texas A&M where she later worked in the Archives department. She taught her daughters to be strong independent women, able to take on the world and demonstrated the love of a wife through her relationship with Julian. Maria was known to be strong, courageous and a fighter as she battled through her illness. Even during her suffering she remained strong in her faith and shared the love of the Lord with others. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking for her family, was an avid reader and loved family gatherings and cook-outs. Maria is survived by her husband Julian; 3 daughters, Celia Tijerina, Lisa Fisher and husband Norm and Monica Tijerina, all of Amarillo; 4 grandchildren, Katrina Lambert and husband Tyler, Madison Lynn, Caleb Fisher and Isabella Tijerina; 4 sisters and 4 brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
