On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Marilyn A. Commons passed away at NW Texas Hospital surrounded by friends and family from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Marilyn was born December 28, 1942 to Rudolph R. and Irene I. “Poeppe” Meyers at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Carroll, Iowa. Marilyn graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa, then attended AIB School of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked for law firms in Carroll, Iowa, Salem, Oregon, Amarillo and Canyon, Texas. She was a perfectionist and dedicated to her work career as a Professional Legal Secretary and Certified Legal Assistant for over 60 years.

On June 14, 1975, Marilyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward Milton Commons, Jr., in Amarillo, Texas. They met five years earlier at the laundromat. Ed and Marilyn enjoyed road trips, art shows, open houses, the Amarillo Symphony, the Amarillo Little Theatre, and evening walks. Marilyn was an active member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, Amarillo, Texas. Everyone remembers her as fun loving, witty, stylish, and an avid reader. She collected cookbooks and was an excellent cook! Marilyn loved their black Labradors—Turkey, Buckwheat, and Liza Jane.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Ed, of fifty years and one day. Also by sisters, Carolyn L. (Bill) Zortman of Hartford, South Dakota; and Jean Marie (Jeff) Madsen of Exira, Iowa. Marilyn is also survived by a brother-in-law Jim (Jarren) Brosowske of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews, 38 great-nieces and nephews, and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews—all who thought they were her favorite.

Rosary by St. Hyacinth Altar Society will be Friday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with inurnment at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Willey, Iowa.
