Heaven gained a precious soul and Earth lost a saint when Marjorie Roy died May 25, 2014.
Marjorie was born July 24, 1923, in Collingsworth County to Nevin and Ollie Willard and was the youngest of six children. After two years of college at Clarendon Junior College, she married Ferris Glenn "Bud" Roy. They had two children: a daughter, Sharon and a son, Raymond. Shortly after Raymond's birth, Bud was killed in Italy during World War II. He died saving others in his platoon and received several medals including the Silver Star.
Marjorie never remarried but never had any self pity. She rather relied on her deep faith and her strong walk with the Lord to see her through hard times. She has consistently been a shining example of a life lived for others - her family, her friends and her church family, all of whom meant so much to her.
When her children were six and seven years old, Marjorie went to West Texas State University to finish her undergraduate degree, followed later by a master's degree. She began her teaching career at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, followed by many years at Coronado Elementary, and eventually retired from Lamar Elementary. She loved her many students and was well loved and remembered by them in turn.
After retiring, she supervised student teachers for a few years. Marjorie spent her remaining years enjoying travel, attending sporting events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and participating in many church activities.
In 2011, Marjorie moved to Harrington Assisted Living Center, where she made new friends and spent many happy hours.
Marjorie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She has left a wonderful legacy by her undying, selfless devotion to her Lord and savior and her love for family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon and husband Garland Sell; a son, Raymond and wife Cheri Roy; her grandchildren, Bryan McLain, Kerry McLain and wife Deaun, Randalyn Huyck, Ryan Roy and wife Melissa and Ashley Roy; and seven great-grandchildren.
