Amarillo

Marlene Barnes “Nannie” Marshall, 89, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 17th 2026, at Saint Stephen Methodist Church, 4600 South Western. Pastor Perry Hunsaker, a beloved friend, will officiate.

Marlene was born on September 20th, 1936 in Santa Monica, California to Walter and Myrtle Barnes. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Marshall, on November 23rd, 1955. Together they raised two children, Mark and Pamela.

Marlene was an avid crafter and artist. She enjoyed time painting and teaching with her sisters Betty and Beverly at their shop on 6th Street. She was most well known for her tole painting. Many referred to her as the “cookie jar lid lady”. If it was a fun craft she was doing it. From quilting, sewing, oil and china painting to making porcelain dolls and in her final days diamond art. Family and friends will cherish her work for years to come.

Marlene loved making new recipes for everyone to try and many of these dishes are now a holiday tradition. She and Bill were in the Good Sam RV club and enjoyed traveling with friends and family to numerous places. Marlene had a servant’s heart and you could tell by her kind spirit. She was a member of St Stephen Methodist church, Seekers Sunday School class, the St Stephen Women in Missions and numerous Bible Study groups. Marlene volunteered for Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Her genuine love for Jesus and people will be her legacy. To know Nannie was to love her and she will be dearly missed until we see her again.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Betty McAvoy and Beverly Martin.

Marlene is survived by her children Pamela Salmon and husband Morgan; Mark Marshall and wife Vivian. Grandchildren: Ashley and Josh Ashley, Meredith and Bret Errington, Logan and Tara Salmon, Vanessa Zabojnik, Tori and Bryan Cochran. Precious great grandchildren: Field and Swayze-Kate Ashley, Penny and Henry Salmon, Evelyn, Isla and Charlotte Cochran, Landon and Annelise Zabojnik.

A special thank you to a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends who often called and visited.
