Marvin was born February 4, 1923 in Oologah, OK, to Martha and Jacob Klein. He was the oldest of seven children and grew up in Peabody, KS. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1941. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps to become a pilot, flying in the Pacific theater during WWII. When the war ended, he returned and married his sweetheart, Helen Olinger, in October 1945. Marvin earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Kansas State University. He worked for Halliburton in Amarillo and Wichita, KS, until his retirement in 1985. He and Helen returned to Amarillo in 2005.
Marvin enjoyed his summer family vacations at the lake. He was still water skiing into his 80s. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, being with family and friends, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his son Blake Klein in 2009. Helen and Marvin had been married for 66 years when she died in 2012.
Survivors include sons, Brad Klein and wife Suzy of Amarillo, and Dr. Kendel Klein and wife Melinda of Mt. Vernon, MO; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Klein of Amarillo; sisters, Joey Landes of East Meadow, NY, and Thelma Layton of Wichita, KS; and a brother, Hubert Klein of Blackwell, OK. Helen and Marvin had 9 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
