Mary T. (Chase) Haun, 71, of Canyon, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial took place at Abilene Cemetery in Abilene, Kansas. The family has requested attendees wear purple.

Born on March 3, 1953, in Abilene, Kansas, Mary was the daughter of Wendell and Ruby Chase. She spent her youth in Chapman, Kansas, graduating from Chapman High School, before pursuing a degree in horticulture from Kansas State University. During her education, Mary was active in 4-H and was one of the first females in the state of Kansas to join the FFA.

She married her husband John Haun on May 19, 1979 in Abilene. The couple moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1980, where they remained for nearly two decades. Mary and John were both avid golfers. Throughout her career, Mary's passion for horticulture shone bright as she dedicated years to the maintenance and development of golf courses, including her role as the assistant superintendent at Tascosa Country Club in the 1980’s, and later superintendent of John Pittman Golf Course in Hereford, Texas from 1992-1997. In 1997, Mary and John returned to their hometown of Abilene, Kansas, where they built and managed the Chisholm Trail Golf Course.

After a decade back in Kansas, Mary and John returned to Amarillo in 2007, where Mary began her tenure at Servi-Tech Laboratories, a role she held for ten years until her retirement in 2018. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her dedication to her family and friends, always ready with a warm smile and kind word for those around her.

After retirement, Mary continued to enjoy her hobbies of gardening and supporting her beloved Kansas State University teams in their athletic endeavors, including football and especially basketball.

Mary and John were members of Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo and First United Methodist Church in Abilene. Mary’s presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who have been blessed to have known such a remarkable woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, John Haun; her daughter, Wendy Haun (Jimerson Adkins) of Pilot Point, TX; her brother, John Chase (Kerby) of Abilene, KS; two nieces, Katie Kohman (Kregg) of Abilene, KS, and Kathy Haun of Council Grove, KS; two nephews, Kody Chase (Becky) of Abilene, KS, and Douglas Haun of Council Grove, KS; and her grand nieces and nephews, Abi Lillard, Chase Lillard, Ruby Kohman and Hadley Chase.
