Mary Lucille "Lucy" Bernius

Mary Lucille “Lucy” Bernius, 81, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Private graveside services will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Harris of Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00 PM Thursday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Lucy was born September 22, 1939 in Hildalgo, Texas to Charles and Grace McClaugherty. She grew up in Edinburgh, Texas, and has lived in Amarillo since 1973. She worked for Affiliated Foods as a merchandiser for many years. She then worked as a private duty aide at Park Place Towers, a job that gave her a lot of joy. Lucy was known for her quick wit and her love of coffee. She was a strong Christian who loved the Lord, and was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Lucy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend special thanks to BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their exceptional care of Lucy.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bobby Bernius and Bradley Bernius, Sr.; a brother, Melvin McClaugherty; two sisters, Betty Brown and Pat Leuellen; a granddaughter, Shelbi Henk; and a grandson, Bradley Bernius, Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Bernius of Amarillo and Candi Vincent and husband Gary of Milam, TX; a son, Scott Bernius of Amarillo; a sister, Faye Godwin of Crowley, LA; three brothers, Dean McClaugherty of Crowley, LA, Pinky McClaugherty of Edinburgh, TX, and Noel McClaugherty of Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Whittney Saadeddine and husband Salien, Brianna Tilson and husband Dustin, Jason Vincent, and Brandon Bernius; four great-grandchildren, Kaytlin, Ethan, Kindell, and Kash; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
