Mary Nell Smith, age 62, died unexpectedly yet peacefully, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at her home in Amarillo, Texas. A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, October 24 at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas. Nell was born November 10, 1954 in Amarillo, TX to John Wisenbaker and Francis Lawson. She graduated from Tascosa High School and went on to gain her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Texas Woman's University and University of Texas at Arlington. She later became a Licensed Master Social Worker. Nell began her 35 year career in health care as a Nursing Home Activity Director in Austin and Waco, TX. She worked as a Medical Social Worker at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, but soon discovered her true calling as a Hospice Social Worker. She worked many years in Dallas but wanted to return to Amarillo to be closer to her kids and grandkids. There she joined Accolade Hospice. She sat on the Board of the Senior Ambassador's Coalition and was a fearless fundraiser for Accolade's Hospice Foundation. Nell worked tirelessly for her clients, her family, her friends and strangers in need. You would never think to throw something out unless you checked with Nell first because she always thought someone might need it. As her co-workers could attest, her handwriting and/or record keeping could only be deciphered by her but she always got the job done. She will be painfully missed by all. She is survived by her children, Shane Redline and his wife Vanessa, their children, Maecy and Jax and Emily Smith and her son Oliver. She is also survived by three brothers, John Wisenbaker of Omaha, NE; David Wisenbaker of Amarillo, and Bob Wisenbaker of Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents. Memorial Donations may be made in Nell's name to Accolade Hospice Foundation, 1934 Medi Park Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106.
