Mary F. Tate-Hammon, 86, passed away at her home in Amarillo, TX on June 27, 2018. Graveside Services will be Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Smith Creek Cemetery in Ft. Payne, Alabama. Mary was born October 12, 1931 in Valley Head, Alabama to John Ike and Annie V. Franklin Tate. She grew up in Ft. Payne and was a graduate of Ft. Payne High School. She married her beloved husband, Paul E. Hammon Sr. of Valley Head, AL on June 30, 1951 in Winston-Salem, NC. Mary received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL) and her Master's degree in Music Education at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX). She taught music at various school districts in Alabama and in New Mexico, where she retired in 2007 at the age of 76. Mary still continued to substitute teach in Amarillo, TX and Grants, NM after her retirement. Mary grew up in the 7th Day Baptist Church and converted to 7th Day Adventist later in life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Edward Hammon Sr.; sons, Paul E. (Eddie) Hammon Jr., Lowell E. Hammon, Mark N. Hammon and Nathan L. Hammon; two sisters and one brother. Mary is survived by daughters, Janice Tortella and husband Shawn, Celeste Duncan and husband Hank and Dia Hammon and significant other Nate Tucker; sons, Carroll Hammon and wife Doris, Philip Hammon, Albert Hammon and wife Vickie, Robert Hammon and wife Lorraine; brother, John B. Tate; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
