Matthew Wayne Nelson

Matthew Wayne Nelson, 47, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Christian Heritage Church, 900 S. Nelson St. with Pastor Craig Lawlis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Matt was born August 19, 1975 in Searcy, Arkansas to George and Doris Ann Nelson. He graduated from River Road High School in 1993. He has worked for Amarillo Thermo King as a mechanic for the last nine years. He also worked for Samson Trucking in Paris, Texas and for J Lee Milligan. In his spare time, Matt enjoyed fishing and riding ATV’s at the river.

Matt was a pivotal point in so many people’s lives, whether it be family, friends or a complete stranger. His example of love and life infected all of those around him. Matt had a pull that drew people to him; everyone wanted to be a part of that. He was hard-working, giving and ornery at times. He was smart, loyal, reliable and selfless. Matt loved his family fiercely and never missed an opportunity to make sure they felt loved.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Ann Branum; his step-mother, June Nelson; and his brother, Jeff Nelson.

Survivors include his fiancée, Stephanie Andrews; two daughters, Alyssa Acree and husband Trevor of Satellite Beach, FL, and Emily Alonzo and husband Isaiah of Amarillo; a son, George W. Nelson of Amarillo; his father, George R. Nelson of Amarillo; a sister, Susan Andrews and husband Jay of Amarillo; a brother, Robert Nelson and wife Wendi of Amarillo; a step-brother, Danny Bates and wife Cheryl of Eagle, NE; two step-children, Ashlynne Robinson and Christopher Pointer; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Nelson; a nephew, Chris Nelson; four grandchildren, Railey, Ember, Atlas and Chase; the mother of his children, Tiffany Nelson; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. And he will be missed by countless others.
