Max Moffet Crawford Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 22, 2024. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2024 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4304 SE 10th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas.
Max was born on January 18, 1949, at Edwards Air Force Base in California to his parents, Max and Olivia Crawford. He spent his high school years at Caprock High School in Amarillo, Texas, graduating in 1967. Upon graduation, Max enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably as a scout sniper for four years in the Vietnam War. During his time in the Marines, Max received multiple commendations, including the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the US Navy Unit Commendation.
After being honorably discharged, Max enrolled in West Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Following his graduation, Max’s professional career focused on his commercial landscaping business, Max Crawford Lawn Service. Max was known for his high-quality service and impeccable work ethic. He became a fixture in Amarillo with his dedicated service to his customers and his incredible reputation.
Max loved to laugh and have a fun time. He was an avid football fan, loved to ride his Harley on cross-country adventures, play a little golf, watch western movies, collect western art and spend downtime at his beloved compound. Max was known for his love of God, country, and family. He was a devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where he regularly attended Sunday services.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Max Sr. and Olivia; his brother, William Gormley; his brother-in-law and close friend, Larry Inman; and a sister-in-law Doris Gormley, wife of Randall Gormley.
Max is survived by his sister, Maxine Inman; two brothers, Randall Gormley and James Gormley and wife Janice; niece, Rebecca Colpoys and husband Kevin; and two nephews, Matthew Inman and wife Elizabeth, and Michael Inman and wife Jessica. He is also survived by many great-nephews and nieces who all share fond memories of Great Uncle Max.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Mike Fuller, Max’s lifelong friend who was always there for him. Thank you for all your support and loving Max like a brother.
