Melvin Clair Brunson, 79, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 16, 2024, at The Loft Church, 4400 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.
Born on June 12, 1945, in Morgan, Texas, Melvin was the son of David Decal and Ora Ophelia Brunson. He graduated from Rio Vista High School in 1963 and continued his education at Fort Worth Christian College. On May 14, 1965, he married Paula Barnett, the love of his life.
Melvin’s career began as a machinist at General Dynamics, after which he joined his father-in-law, Ed Barnett, in the cattle and livestock hauling business. He then served as the shop foreman at Kenworth of Fort Worth until April 1983. In May of that year, Mel, Paula, and their sons relocated to Amarillo, Texas, where Mel began a career in sales with K&N Electric. He retired in 2012 but continued to dedicate himself to ministry until his passing. His service to the Lord was profound, encompassing roles as Deacon, Elder, Counselor, and Minister.
Melvin was deeply loved and cherished by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ora Nell, and his brother David.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Paula; his sons Jeffrey (and wife Bonita), Steven (and wife Diane), and Michael (and wife Susan); and his beloved grandchildren Josh (and wife Darya), Jon (and wife Laura), Ashley, Cody, Kelsey (and husband Jason), Breanna (and husband Christian), Katelynn (and husband Shawn), along with 8 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a brother Darwin, a sister Molly, a brother Gary and several nieces & nephews.
Melvin will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his loving spirit, and his dedication to his family and community.
