Michael "Mike" Olson

Michael "Mike" Olson, 56, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Celebration of life services will be at 5 p.m. today in Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Reed Redus officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mike was born May 11, 1957, in Topeka, Kan., to John and Virginia Olson. He moved to Amarillo, where he graduated from Caprock High School in 1975. He married Laura Lyons on May 13, 1983. Mike received a journeyman plumbers license and worked as a journeyman plumber before working with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway as an engineer. He partnered with his nephew, Steven Scholl, at Apple Plumbing, where he worked until the time of his death. Mike was an avid reader and a fan of Kansas University basketball. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Erin, who was the love of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Laura Olson of Amarillo; a daughter, Erin Olson of Amarillo; a sister, Johnie Olson Boyd and husband John of Fort Worth; his sisters-in-law, Annie Frantz and husband Lee of Mulvane, Kan., and Amy Johnson of Waverly, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Tim Lyons of Topeka, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews who loved him greatly.
