James Michael King (Mike) peacefully passed unexpectedly in his sleep on July 28, 2022.Mr. King will lie in state on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 5-7 pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 2 pm at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 S. Soncy, Amarillo, Tx. Mike was born to James Berchel and Josephine Adenia (Mills) King on January 29, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas.  Mike graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1974 and went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with a B. S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1978.  During his teen years he enjoyed working on cars with his Dad and Uncles.  During high school and college, he worked doing construction developing a passion for building and engineering. He married Cay Plunkett on March 5, 1976.  After graduating college, he moved to Houston and then to Plaquemine, LA while working for Chicago Bridge & Iron.  He eventually ended up back in Amarillo in 1980 where he raised his family. He married the love of his life Lupita Valencia August 18, 2012.  Mike was known for his love of his family, hunting, fishing and concrete construction, not necessarily in that order.

Mike was preceded in death by his daughter Johnna Michelle, mother Josephine, and brother Michael Randell.

He is survived by his father James B. King, wife Lupita, son Dustin and wife Shyla, David and wife Lacie, daughter Robin and husband Benjamin Baber, daughter Angela and step daughter Kathy Morales. Sisters Pam Burrier and Mona and husband Les Yarbrough. Grandsons Aidin King, Kelton King, Kolton King, and Kayson Baber. Granddaughters Makayla Reeves, Sophee McCrary, and Ava King.  Nephews Chris Burrier (Becky), Gary Burrier (Noemi), Josh Burrier, Taylor Gustin, and Koben Yarbrough. Niece Michelle Perdue (Brandon).  6 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 1 great-great nephew.  Aunts Jo Evelyn Tolbert, Jerrie Tims, Ann Bradshaw (Doug). Uncle Wiley Mills.  Many cousins and close friends
