Michael (Mike/PawPaw/PawPawl) Rodgers, 80, of Amarillo, passed away on Tuesday, December 09, 2025. Fulfilling his desire, no services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Mike was born on May 06, 1945 in Amarillo to Tren and Lahoma Rodgers. He grew up in Cactus and loved being referred to as one of the “Cactus Rats”. The family moved to Dumas as he entered high school, and was in the Class of 1964 DHS, always proud to be a “Dumas Demon”. In 1965 Mike joined and proudly served in the United States Navy. After returning home from the Navy, he attended and graduated from Draughon’s Business College. He was a Bookkeeper by trade, for many years, working many years for the Hilton Hotels in Amarillo and then Houston. He retired from his position of Bus Driver and Custodian for River Road ISD, after 21 years. He loved a wide range of music, from enjoying the symphony, to John Fogerty. In his later life, he enjoyed listening to Spotify every night and playing online card games on his computer & tablet. He had a quiet and loving soul and was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife, Kay. He said the old saying, “3rd Times A Charm” had to be true, as this was the 3rd marriage for each of them. Mike and Kay celebrated 39 years of marriage this last September. Mike never had children of his own but when he married Kay, he gained 4 children & 3 grandchildren, instantly and ending up with 13 Grand-Blessings & 13 Great Grand-Blessings! He ADORED time with any & all the grandchildren and the great grandchildren, most of all!
He was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church, Amarillo.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Trenda, Leslie, daughter Deana Johnson & grandson, Jonathon Griego.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Rodgers of the home; children John (Traci) Holcomb, Sheryl Holcomb, Wes (Shelly) Holcomb. Grands; Jason, Brittany, Marcos, Traci, Nando, JackieDean, Zoë, Ashlyn, Karlee, Landon, Landri and Drew, plus the 13 greats. He was so Thankful and Proud of each one of them.
